Phyno is the stage name of a famous Nigerian rapper Azubuike Nelson, who was born in 1986 in Enugu State. When Azubuike was a kid, his dream was to become a pilot then a doctor and in the secondary school the future star had decided to go on the path of music. His nickname, Phyno, was given to the him by one of his friends in high school. The career of young rapper started in 2003 and he debuted as a producer working with such stars as Flavour, Timaya, Bracket and some others, but Phyno was still dreaming about his own music career.
His dreams came true in 2010 when Phyno started rapping and moved to Lagos for developing his career. In 2012 the young rapper began recording the debut album and the same year the lead single from this album was released. It was titled Ghost Mode and the song was awarded The Headies and Nigeria Entertainment Award in 2012 and in 2013 consequently. In 2013 two more Phyno’s songs from the debut album were released – Man of the Year and Parcel. Those singles were acclaimed by music critics and rap fans. In 2014 the debut album was finally released. It was titled No Guts No Glory and became the significant moment for the young rap star. The album was acclaimed by the fans of young Nigerian rap stars. In 2014 Phyno was added into Nigerian Made of Black campaign led by Guinness. The young rapper was to perform his songs alongside Eva Alordiah and Olamide. Phyno will bring some new music in 2015, his second album titled 2 Kings is expected this year.
Phyno’s awards and nominations is one of the proofs of how successful he has been in the entertainment industry. Most fans of the young Nigerian star are interested in his personal life but Phyno doesn’t want to talk about it. In 2014 the rapper was interviewed by The Punch newspaper and one of the questions was about the gossips telling that Phyno had impregnated a woman named Rita Edmond but Phyno denied this fact.
