Osun is an inner state in the South-Western of Nigeria and bounded by Kwara State on the North, Ondo State and Ekiti State partly on the East, Ogun State on the South and Oyo State on the West. Osun state is the home of several most famous landmarks in Nigeria. This state was formed in 1991 from the part of old Oyo State. Its name was derived from River Osun, which is the acclaimed natural spring and indicator of the Yoruba goddess of identical name.

People and Culture

Residents in Osun state belongs to Yoruba people as well as comprised of the Ifes, Oyos, Osuns, Ijesas and Igbominas. English and Yoruba are its languages being used for communication, business and official transactions. They practice Christianity, Paganism and Islam. People in Osun state have abundant culture heritage which is articulately demonstrated in all the circles of their lives. They have expression in literature, music, dances, arts and other cultural festivals. Osun is famous for their bata music and talking drums. Aside from that, they have excellent art works that most people even inside Nigeria loves. However, they have one of the popular cultures where devotees and non-devotees of Osun, travel from different countries to attend its annual Osun-Osogbo festival during August.

The visitors include residents of Cuba, Grenada, Brazil, Trinidad and other state in America with a substantial cultural heritage of Yoruba. Such tourist attractions within Osun state comprises the Ife museum, Genesis Arts Gallery, Nike Arts Gallery, Adunni Susan Wengers Center, Oduduwa groove and Yeyemolu Shrines in Ile-Ife, Jalumi War Site in Inisa, the Olumirin Water-Falls, Igbo-Sango in Ede, Erin-Ijesa and many others. Their cultural heritage signifies to give importance to the talents and skills they want to give enjoyment and happiness to other people.

Osun state is also educationally enhance with several institutions. It has countless primary as well as secondary schools in the private and public sector. It includes technical schools, midwifery and nursing schools, health technology schools, two government and three privately owned polytechnics, plus five private universities and two public ones.
