Ogun State News Today

Ogun is a state, which is situated in Nigeria. It covers 16,763 square kilometers. The biggest city there is Abeokuta. Ogun got the name after the river that flows in its territory. Perhaps it should be also pointed out the fact that the city began its history of 6 main ethnical groups. Among them, one can emphasize the Ijebu, the Egbado, the Awori, the Egan and the Egba.

The state consists of 21 local administration regions.

It is worth mentioning that the population of the state is about 4 million people. The current administration in Ogun State lead by Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The main languages are Yoruba and English (Official Language) and also there are some other dialects.

This is a unique city, as far as it has 3 state universities and more than five private ones -only Ogun has such a luck in the country.

There is a great centralization of manufactured possessions in Ogun. Thanks to this fact, the state is the main center of industrial production in the country.

Among the main attractions are Olumo Rock (located in the heart of the capital city. It seemed to protect ancient societies from enemy incursions) , St. Peters Cathedral (the first church in the country), Centenary Hall, Bilikisu Sungbo Shrine, Abeokuta Museum (different sculptures open visitors interesting facts about ancient people, their development, and history) and many others.The climate is very suitable for the industrial rise.

It is well-known that many people start their business exactly in this state. People can cultivate cotton, oil palm, vegetables and so on. Ogun is full of natural resources. Among them is kaolin, bauxite, quartz, granite.The Ogun state is also known for its Adire textile production. For nearly 25% of its whole area is composed of forest supplies suitable for beasts.

It's hard not to mention the most outstanding political representatives in the State. They are Afolabi Olabimtan, Babatunde Osotimehin, Christopher Oluwole Rotimi, Dimeji Bankole, Femi Okurounmu, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and some others.
