The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was founded by Act 12 with amendments of Act 50 of 1999 to eliminate the plight of Nigeria. Questions connected with disaster management were resolved by certain specific constructions.
Mission and vision
NEMA was created to adjust the amount of resources to forewarn the emergence and subsequent development of disasters as well as to improve living conditions in the country after the catastrophe. Other important objective is to prepare the population for possible disasters.
NEMA prepared a coherent policy for disaster relief and according to this policy determines, what steps were taken to address of a disaster and how effective they are. The organization also oversees the readiness and enlightenment of people in the case of new disasters.
Mission Control Centre (MCC)
MCC is situated in headquarters of the Agency and represents computer equipment with satellite technologies. Using this kind of computer it became easier to quickly find the people affected by the disaster, as there shows all data about the accident: where, how and when it was made.
Geographic Information System (GIS)
GIS was installed for rapid alert about the disaster and precise instructions in case of danger. Laboratory operates with spatial data, parses them, selects the desired information, which is a response to questions about the disaster. it is considered to be one of the most valuable parts of NEMA.
As most people in the case of an accident face with time constraints, it was invented a great tool for solving this problem, such as mobile clinics. They are located in many towns, and if a catastrophe found people by surprise, the clinic would be always ready for use.
The fully staffed helicopter was invented for search and rescue operations. Perhaps state will buy more helicopters to each area had at hand rescue tool.
