Background

Kano state is situated in the northern part of Nigeria and shares borders with Katsina State to the northwest, Jigawa State to the northeast, Bauchi state to the southeast, and Kaduna State to the southwest.

Population

In 2006, the population of Kano State was recorded as 9,401,288 people. According to official data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Kano State remains the most populous state in Nigeria.

History

Kano was traditionally founded by a blacksmith from the Gaya tribe who went to Dalla Hill in search of iron. The city has a rich history as a hub of commercial activity in Hausaland, which is reflected in the state’s nickname, the Centre of Commerce.
