Obasanjo's letter to Buhari: ACF slams ex-president

- The Arewa Consultative Forum has expressed displeasure over the recent open letter former president Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari

- The forum alleged that Obasanjo intended to cause disaffection in the polity through the open letter

- According to the forum, the former president has no moral standing to write such letter to Buhari

The Arewa Consultative Forum has alleged that former president Olusegun Obasanjo intended to cause disaffection in the polity through the open letter he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ACF, which stated this at a conference in Kaduna on Wednesday, July 24, said that the former president had no moral standing to write such letter to Buhari.

Daily Trust reports that the forum, which said Obasanjo should use a better and civilised way of communicating his views to Buhari, asked the former president to apologise to Nigerians for writing such letter.

Legit.ng notes that ACF said: “It is our candid opinion that Chief Obasanjo being a former President and an elder statesman who has unfettered access to the president should use a better and most civilized way of communicating his views to a sitting president rather than going public to create unnecessary scene and try to bring down the roof.

“He is always proclaiming doomsday, predicting upheaval and bloodbath, which to say the least has diminished his acclaimed status as a patriot and nationalist.

The forum also expressed its displeasure over claim that there were plans to 'Islamise and 'Fulanise' Nigeria, adding that there was no such thing in the north's agenda.

The forum said: “His statements and comments on national issues are neither driven by altruism nor by patriotism, but sheer self-aggrandizement, we must ask what motivates Chief Obasanjo’s current divisive activities; his recent outburst on ‘Islamization’, Fulanization’, and ‘Northernization’ are clearly calculated at causing division and acrimony along religious, ethnic and regional lines which is most unfortunate."

Legit.ng previously reported that former Nigeria's president, Olusegun Obasanjo, wrote another letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, telling the latter to put an end to violent attacks across Nigeria.

The former president said the world had been warning Nigeria against descending into a state of violence because any outbreak would be difficult to contain.

According to Obasanjo, Boko Haram has menacingly ravaged the land and in spite of government’s claim of victory over Boko Haram, the potency and the activities of the terrorist group, where they are active, remain undiminished, putting lie to government’s claim.

In another report by Legit.ng, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the first time, made a scanty reference to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo's letter and called it “abusive’’.

Buhari said he did not want a response to the letter which derided the government and urged him (Buhari) not to seek a second term.
