Okorocha Speaks About Renewed Agitation For Biafra

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has dissociated southeast governors and leaders from the pro-Biafra groups.

According to Okorocha, the Igbos will not use the agitation of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to pursue the Igbo agenda, The Nation reports.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting with reporters, he stated that the Igbos will support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to attract the dividends of democracy that eluded them in the past.

We should try to jettison religious sentiments and support President Buhari. The Igbo will not use Biafra as a front; we condemn those agitating for Biafra because that is not Ndigbo’s need,” he said.

The governor explained that the setbacks in the zone could not be solved by antagonising the north and west, but by mutual cooperation and support for the All Progressives Congress-led federal government.

He added that they did not need an armed struggle associated with militia groups to attract economic and infrastructural development.

Shehu Sani, a senator representing Kaduna Central blamed the renewed agitation for Biafra on pro-Jonathan elements who want to destroy the Buhari-led administration.

Meanwhile, some members of MASSOB said they would not jettison the struggle for the actualization of the state of Biafra. Uchenna Madu, a factional national director of information, in a signed statement noted the determined ones were still committed to the cause, stating that the Biafran struggle remains a genuine movement.
