Nigerians are suffering - Lawmakers tell Buhari

- Lawmakers have cried out over the challenges and poverty situations faced by Nigerians

- In a motion sponsored by the chairman of the committee on poverty alleviation, Muhammad Wudil, said the pangs of hunger is being felt by every Nigerian

Some lawmakers have warned President Muhammadu Buhari of the challenges and poverty situations faced by Nigerians.

Premium Times reports that the lawmakers urged President Buhari's administration to make efforts towards tackling the problems of poverty in Nigeria.

The lawmakers who are members of the House of Representatives said poverty is currently biting hard on most Nigerians.

They called on the federal government to be more effective in implementing programmes that will be aimed at tackling poverty in Nigeria.

The lawmakers in a motion sponsored by the chairman of the committee on poverty alleviation, Muhammad Wudil, said every Nigerian and the members of the Green Chamber is feeling the pangs of poverty.

The motion by the lawmaker followed the letter written to the Lower House by President Buhari for the presentation of the 2018-2020 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

The president in his letter said the MTEF and FSP were prepared against the backdrop of general adverse global economic uncertainty.

Buhari said: "The MTEF and FSP were prepared against the backdrop of a generally adverse global economic uncertainty, as well as fiscal challenges and recovery in the domestic economy to ensure that planned spending is set at prudent and sustainable levels and is consistent with government’s overall developmental objectives and inclusive growth.”

Also, speaking on the matter, another lawmaker Nicholas Ossai said most of the infrastructural projects in satellite towns had failed.

Ossai also advocated for more attention to these satellite towns in the area of electricity and water supply.

“Let us give the people in these satellite towns a sense of belonging. Places like Jikwoyi, Kubwa, Dutse; there are no good roads there. Let us endeavour to cater for these people," Ossai said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Senate called for a separate minister for the ministry of power.

The Senate said the current minister of power, Babatunde Fashola, urged the federal government to incorporate Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for the implementation of alternative energy projects.
