The Rider's Embassy marks independence with One Nigeria Ride

- Nigerians from all walks of life today, Sunday, October 1, celebrated the country's independence in different ways

- A group of bike riders in Abuja known as The Rider's Embassy marked theirs in a unique way

- They rode around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and hoisted the largest Nigerian flag in the city

A group of bike riders in Abuja known as The Rider's Embassy today, Sunday, October 1, hoisted the largest Nigerian flag in the FCT.

The event which was in celebration of Nigeria's 57th Independence anniversary, was tagged Ride For One Nigeria.

Addressing journalists at the event, leader of the group, Abubakar Abdullahi, stated that the event was organised to make a statement in the FCT, for the unity of Nigeria in solidarity with the millions of Nigerians who hope to see a better Nigeria.

His words: “We ride today with the conviction that despite our seeming differences and problems, we are better as a united and not divide nation.

“We ride against hate, against injustice, against tyranny, against corruption and we ride for peace, for justice, for development and for the unity of Nigeria.”

Abdullahi expressed optimism that Nigerians will see the prospects of the nation when its people are united.

He also noted that many of the grieviances are legitimate, but stressed that the demands or solutions to these agitations does not include the division of Nigeria.

“To the contrary, we believe that a more united Nigeria is what we need to address these problems,” he added.

Legit.ng observed that the group embarked on a ride round the city center and ended up at Tobix Recreational Park where the flag was hoisted amidst cheers and accolades from those present at the colourful event.

Meanwhile, young American-based Nigerian, who declared his interest to contest for 2019 presidential election three months ago, Chris Emejuru, has stated that restructuring Nigeria is the best way to address the country's problems.

Emejuru made the call in a statement he personally signed and sent to Legit.ng on the 57th anniversary of Nigeria.

He also dismissed calls for secession from some quarters, stressing that they are not realistic.
