Unknown gunmen in Bauchi in the early hours of yesterday stormed the house of a popular politician and an associate of the state Governor,Mallam Isa Yuguda, Alhaji Muhammad Sade and took him away. This is coming on the heels of Sunday’s suicide bomb attack on St. John’s Catholic Church in the town that claimed three lives with several others injured.
The well armed hoodlums who raided the house along railway road in the metropolis, were said to have also killed the security guard of the politician who tried to prevent them from entering the residence.
Sources close to the family of the abducted Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) chieftain who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the kidnappers did not give any reason for their action neither did they demand money from the victim before taking him away.
But security sources confided in our correspondent that, four people have so far been apprehended in connection with the incident after recovering the victim’s shoe in one of the suspected vehicles used by the culprits during the operation.
The state publicity secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Ali Hardo, confirmed the incident describing it as detestable and condemnable.
He said the current terrorist activities in the state was an evil attempt to destabilise the state and retard the relative peace enjoyed in the past couple of months and called on the general public to resort to prayers to see to the end of the present insecurity in the state.
Hardo also urged the security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in order to avert the recurrence of such despicable acts. Efforts to speak with the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Ladan on the incident proved abortive as he failed to respond to calls on his phone by our correspondent.
The Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Mr. Michael Ishola Adeyemi said it was purely a security matter, but did not elaborate.
