FG to Tambuwal: Let’s Work Together

The Federal Government has urged Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, to improve the relationship between the House and the Executive in the interest of Nigerians.

Welcoming the appeal made by the Federal Government through the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadohme, the speaker pointed out that what some Nigerians might see as a seeming frosty relationship between members of the House of Representatives and the Federal Government was healthy for the nation’s democracy.

He, however, expressed the readiness of the House to work in harmony with the executive but warned that the interest of Nigerians would be paramount in any of its decisions.

Oghiadohme and the Speaker bared their minds at the palace of the Onojie of Uromi, HRH Anslem Eidenogie, when they paid him a courtesy visit, shortly after they attended the funeral ceremony of the father in-law of the member Representing Esan North/South-East of Edo State in the House of Representatives, Friday Itulah.

However, Chief Oghiadohme, who arrived the palace of the Onojie at about 7:20pm to meet with Tambuwal, called for better cooperation between the executive and National Assembly.

He expressed the readiness of the Federal Government to cooperate with the National Assembly for the general interest of Nigerians.

Hailing Tambuwal’s leadership qualities  and welcoming him to Edo State, Oghiadohme, who noted that the prevailing frosty relationship between the lawmakers and executive was not healthy for  the nation’s democracy, called for improved relationship between the House and the executive, stressing that the new eneration of leaders had a duty to develop the country.

He said: “We can only achieve success by cooperating and building bridges in areas of conflict for the overall interest of Nigerians.”

Accompanied by Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, lawmakers from Edo State, such as Rasaq Bello-Osagie, Pally Iriase, Samson Osagie and others, Tambuwal declared that it was the resolve of the House of Representatives to ensure that President Jonathan succeeded by fulfilling his electoral promises to Nigerians.

He said there was no crisis between lawmakers and the executive, asserting that the interest of Nigerians superseded that of any individual.

Soliciting the assistance of the traditional institution in strengthening democracy in the country, the Speaker stated: “What ever decision we are taking today, we believe we are taking it in the best interest of our fatherland.

“What ever steps we are taking in the House, we are doing so because we want our people to get the best dividend of democracy from government.

“Nothing more, nothing less. We have been cooperating with the executive and others to achieve this and we will continue to cooperate with them to achieve success.”
