Gunmen today kidnapped a prominent politician in Bauchi state, Alhaji Muhammadu Sade, after they killed his security guard and fired several shots before they fled away with him. Bauchi State Police Commissioner Mohammed Ladan confirmed the incident. He said, “We are still investigating the matter, we have arrested one suspect who is helping police in their investigation.”
Sade, popularly known as Mai Gemu as he used to be called by his friends and associates, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi state and a close political associate to Bauchi State Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda was kidnapped in his house on his way to the mosque.
In his account of the incident, a family member to the victim Hafizu Dahiru said early this morning Sade’s daughter called his wife and told her that gunmen kidnapped Sade in his residence at Railway Quarters, Bauchi, in Bauchi state.
Hafizu said Sade has been kidnapped on his way to mosque from his house for early Morning Prayer, around five o’clock in the morning, when the assailants shot and killed his security man before taking him away.
“His whereabouts and safety is still unknown, we pray may Allah bail him from his kidnappers,” he said.
Assistant State Publicity Secretary of PDP Alhaji Bashir Bukar Rimin Zayam condemned the act, and added: “We received the news of his abduction with great shock and we pray to God to be his keeper wherever he is and may God rescue him, we advised our leaders to be fair and just to all.”
Rimin Zayam called on security agencies to tighten their belt in order to protect the lives and properties of innocent citizens and called for regular prayers in order to overcome the security challenges bedevilling the country so that permanent peace could be sustained.
The incident is the fourth security problem in the state within one week. Gunmen attacked and killed nine people in Zango village; gunmen also killed Ex-Controller General of Prison Service in Azare. Last Sunday, a suicide bomber attacked Saint John’s Cathedral Church, killing four people while 46 people were injured; and early morning today, Alhaji Muhammadu Sade was kidnapped.
