Church Leaders Reject Prophet Who Exhumed Grave To Strengthen His Prophetic Powers

Leaders of Johane Masowe eChishanu Apostolic sect have castigated the antics of a prophet who claims to be a member of their church.

The Mutoko-based prophet reportedly exhumed the grave of a First Chimurenga Liberation Fighter who died in 1920. The prophet is said to have taken the skeletal remains from the grave which he burnt and used the ashed to strengthen his prophetic powers, it is alleged.

The prophet, Madzibaba Sebastian Mazungwani Kapango (29), has since been arrested and is facing charges of unlawfully tempering with a grave. Following the publication of the article last month, 3 of the 5 reigning leaders of Johane Masowe eChishanu Apostolic church have said their church is strongly against what the prophet allegedly did.

The three, Madzibaba Lawrence Katsiru, Madzibaba Edward Manyara and Madzibaba Israel Muhana, said Prophet Sebastian who claims to be a member of their church is not known to them. They however added that they are not in a position to refute or support if he really is a member of their church.

"For now we can not really refute that he is not a member of our church but what he did is not associated with us. We do not exhume dead people's graves, that's witchcraft. We do not use burnt human skeletal remains as he alleged," said Madzibaba Edward.

There are now various divisions within the Johane Masowe church. These include Johane Masowe Jurani Firi, Johane Masowe eNguwo Tsvuku, Johane Masowe eNyenyedzi, Johane Masowe eNyanza yaYeso, and Johane Masowe eJerusarema. So probably he is a member of one of these churches, but not ours."

The three promised to go to Mutoko and learn more about this prophet. Madzibaba Edward said "this man acts like someone who practices witchcraft because when one exhumes graves and gets into caves, it shows he is not prayerful".

"We are probably around 5 million in total, so there might be some culprits in our midst. But once we catch them we will deal with them accordingly, for we do not tolerate people who tarnish our church's name," added Madzibaba Edward.

Madzibaba Sebastian Mazungwani Kapango, a prophet from Kabasa area in Mutoko got arrested late last month for allegedly exhuming the grave of a First Chimurenga Liberation War fighter who died in 1920. After digging the grave, the prophet reportedly took the remains of the deceased and burnt them so as to strengthen his prophetic powers, it is alleged.

The youthful prophet from Gurure village in Mutoko was arrested on two weeks at Masowe in Kagande area under Chief Charehwa in Mutoko claims to be prophet in the Johane Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church.
