5 Men Arraigned For Assaulting A Nurse 4 years ago 3

The Police on Wednesday arraigned five men before an Abuja Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of joint act, assault and disturbance.

Police prosecutor Luka Ephriam gave the names of the accused as Ekeh Henry, Agbalusia Obi, Eneoli Nnachetani, Ifeanyi Odumegwu and Michael Ogedemgbe.

Ephriam told the court that the plaintiff, Toyin Akeshinro reported the case of joint act, assault and disturbance against the accused at the Kubwa Police Station on Sept. 3.

Ephriam said that the accused allegedly committed the offences at the Kubwa General Hospital premises on Sept. 3 when they took a lady, whom they claimed was an accident victim for emergency medical attention.

He said that the nurses at the Hospital asked the accused to obtain a patient’s card and fulfill other necessary conditions before they would be attended to.

“They insisted that the patient should be treated immediately and started to make so much noise, preventing the nurses from discharging their functions and disturbing other patients.

“In the process, they forcefully locked the plaintiff inside the nurses’ station, injuring her in the process.

“The plaintiff then called her husband, who, in turn, called the Police and reported the matter,’’ Luka said.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 264 and 114 of the Penal Code.

Mr Onuoha Emmanuel, the Defence Counsel, applied for bail for the five accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presiding Magistrate Ibrahim Mohammed granted each accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case to Oct. 17 for further hearing. (NAN) Home Page
