The Nasarawa State police command has recorded another breakthrough in a robbery incident, as its men were able to foil a robbery attempt in one of the new generation banks in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
It was exclusively gathered that the armed robbers, numbering five, stormed the bank around 2.00 a.m. and started shooting sporadically at the security post with intention to kill the security men on guard before breaking into the main banking hall.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Cornelious Ocholi, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune, on Tuesday, saying one AK 47 magazine, with five live ammunition and two cartridges were abandoned by the robbers, who bolted away.
According to the informed source, the armed robbers thought they had killed the security men on duty during the shooting spree and gained access into the main premises; unfortunately for them, as they were about making efforts to break into the banking hall, policemen on duty repelled them with shooting from different angles.
Nigerian Tribune investigations further revealed that, when the robbers could not withstand the force of the bullets from the security personnel, and had to escape by scaling the fence abandoning their ammunition.
The state police spokesman, who told the Nigerian Tribune that investigations were still on to apprehend the robbers who escaped with gun wound and added that, the two corporals, Adamu Ibrahim and Emmanuel Ogbu, who foiled the bank robbery, were given cash rewards, on Monday, by the command.
