An international development agency, WaterAid Nigeria, has urged residents of some communities in Ekiti State to stop defecating in the open.
The Programme Support Coordinator of WaterAid, Mr. Ephraim Danladi, said this at a meeting with the partners of the organisation in Ado Ekiti on Monday.
Danladi appealed to the partner organisations to sustain the Community Led Total Sanitation programme, saying doing so would improve sanitation in communing ties in the state.
The agency called on the two levels of government in the state and its partners to fashion out policies and programmes to ensure that the state attains the Millennium Development Goals in the water and sanitation sectors by 2015.
He urged residents to support the government in its bid to improve on the health care system.
Danladi said WaterAid and its partners visited Ijesamodu in Ilejemeje Local Government and the traditional ruler in the town, Oba Agboola Osatuyi, and his subjects declared their readiness to put an end to open defecation in their area.
He said the training was organised for its water and sanitation coordinators, sanitation officers in the local governments, the media and members of the civil societies to enhance their capacities.
