Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram shot a retired Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma, and two security aides in Azare, Bauchi State on Monday night.
Family sources told an online medium, THEWILL, late on Monday that two men riding on a motorcycle shot Jarma several times as he emerged from a community mosque in Azare town located in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Jarma and one of the aides were injured while his orderly was killed.
The ex-prisons boss and his aide were rushed to a hospital.
Jarma was said to have survived the attack, the website quoted police sources as saying.
The attack came barely 24 hours after about nine persons were killed and seven others were wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire at unarmed civilians in the Zango district, a suburb of Bauchi Metropolis.
Attempts to reach the Bauchi State Police Commissioner or the command’s spokesman for comments were unsuccessful.
