National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Chief Dan Nwanyawu, yesterday denied lobbying for the Officer of the Republic (OFR) National Award bestowed on him, saying his reasons for receiving the award was not personal.
He also condemned those criticising President Goodluck Jonathan for giving award to the Chairman of Globacom, Mike Adenuga, saying such comments were baseless and that they did not get their facts correct.
“I was in my office when a letter was sent to me that I am among those receiving the national award, it will be wrong to turn it down as it will be turning the whole Nigeria down, this has nothing to do with individuals, this is a national honour and which will encourage me to work harder,” he said.
While saying that he is not supporting President Jonathan because he want to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he added, “I am not a PDP and I will not join PDP. I am happy where I am.”
On Adenuga’s award, he said, “President Jonathan has done the right thing for giving award to Adenuga, as the man has contributed towards the development of Nigeria, those who are making comments that Adenuga was indicted in the oil subsidy saga did not get their facts correct.”
