Eid-El-Kabir: Soldiers, Bomb Experts Deployed To Prayer Grounds

As the Muslim faithful celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir across the country today, the federal government has put in place machinery to ensure the security of life and property at prayer grounds across the country.

Security agents including bomb experts, soldiers and anti-terror squads have been drafted to strategic locations, especially the sites for the Eid prayer in different parts of the country, to keep peace and security during and after the Sallah.

The inspector-general of police, Mohammed Abubakar, has already ordered assistant inspector-generals and commissioners of police in charge of zonal and state commands to ensure that places of worship and recreation centres were given priority attention during and after the Sallah.

A top military officer in charge of security operations in one of the northern states confirmed that military personnel drafted for the purpose have been instructed to embark on thorough stop-and-search exercise without any laxity in all areas of priority.

Meanwhile, President Jonathan, in his Eid-el-Kabir message to Nigerians, urged all cititzens of the country to seize the opportunity of the Sallah season and the public holidays to reflect on how they can bring the ideals and virtues of their respective religious beliefs to bear on the positive resolution of the many challenges facing the nation.

“I extend warm greetings and felicitations to you all as we celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival. I also congratulate all Nigerians who successfully undertook the Hajj this year despite the unforeseen difficulties which developed over the issue of male companions for some of our female pilgrims”, he said.
