Iheanacho’s Arrest: Igbo Group Alleges Set Up

An Igbo pressure group, Kings of Igbo, has condemned the arrest and subsequent release on bail of former interior minister, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, over allegations of complicity in alleged theft of oil.

An online statement signed by the President of the association, Sir Uche Uche, said the entire episode was a set up aimed at smearing the former minister.

The association said armed security men raided the facility of Integrated Oil belonging to the former minister saying “Their reason was that vessel carrying stolen oil came to rent Integrated Tank Farm storage facility and discharged there on a through put basis. The truth is that the said vessel M.T. Grace belongs to a relative of the Director General of NIMASA and the said oil belonged to his Ijaw brother.

“Also the vessel that came and discharged at integrated tank farm tendered to Integrated Oil every relevant clearance document from NIMASA, NPA, DPR, Navy, Customs etc. We firmly believe, someone connected to the leadership of NIMASA and Tompolo plotted this to dent the very clean image of a noble Nigerian.”

The group said it is demanding for a full and thorough investigation into the matter with a view to restoring “The rights of this Nigerian as this desperate act cannot stand the smell test. If this evil is allowed here, the international community will not allow it and certainly Igbos will not allow it.”
