The Congress for Progressives Change has threatened to sue the Enugu State Government to stop the proposed plan by the administration of Governor Sullivan Chime to build a new state secretariat at the cost of N13.6bn.
Osita Okechukwu, the CPC leader in Enugu State, who confirmed this development on Sunday, said the party has learnt that the state government had concluded plans to borrow from two new generation banks at high interest rates to execute the project.
Okechukwu, who is also the National Publicity Secretary of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, explained that the CPC would want to know where the state government would get the money to execute the project as it was, according to him, not provided for in the budget.
He said, “We are going to court on Monday to stop this reign of impunity and financial recklessness in Enugu State. We have reliably gathered that the state government wants to borrow from two new generation banks at a high interest rate to build the new secretariat.
“We will not fold our arms and allow this government to destroy the existing secretariat, which is a legacy and now bequeath a legacy of huge debt to the people of Enugu State. We are heading to court to stop the government,” the CPC governorship candidate in Enugu in 2011 said.’’
