Two Arraigned For Trafficking 16-Year-Old Girl

The police on Tuesday arraigned two persons, Blessing Okafor (20) and Stanley Eyitayo (46), before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for alleged human trafficking.

It was alleged that the two accused persons lured a 16-year-old girl, Gift Chidi, from her parents’ home in Aba, Abia State, to Lagos for the purpose of prostitution.

The police said the teenager was rescued from the accused at about 12:20am on September 26 along Mile 2-Orile Road, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

Asked by the court if her parents knew she had been taken to Lagos, Chidi said her whereabouts were unknown to them.

The police charged the accused with three counts bordering on conspiracy to commit felony, human trafficking and unlawful deprivation of personal liberty.

The charge sheet reads in part, “That you Okafor and Eyitayo within the Lagos magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit human trafficking and contemporary slavery.”

Okafor and Eyitayo, however, pleaded not guilty when their plea was taken.

Magistrate O.A. Ogala admitted them to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
