Father of a carpenter in Zaria that died after a mob attacked him has called on the police and other relevant authorities to come to his aid by fishing out the perpetrators.
One Habu Daru was alleged to have ordered some youths to attack Datti Balarabe with clubs and as a result Balarabe lost his life at the Zaria city police division.
The father of the deceased, Mallam Balarabe Muhammad, said his son on Sunday, September 9, went to a place called Kwanar Shahada in Jushi, Zaria, to carry out carpentry work assigned to him by his boss when Habu Daru allegedly ordered some youths to attack him.
“According to what I was told, my son went to that area to remove a shop that was erected on his boss’ piece of land. Unfortunately for my son, there is an ongoing dispute about the ownership of the land and when Habu Daru saw them removing the shop, he ordered some youths to attack them saying that they are armed robbers. My son sustained serious injuries from the attack. When some good Samaritans rushed him to hospital for treatment, Habu Daru went to the hospital to tell the doctors that my son was an armed robber. As a result, he was moved to Zaria City police division and he died there. I want the matter investigated because as I am talking to you now, Habu Daru is going about his activities as a free man. I don’t think that is proper,” Muhammad said.
When contacted, Habu Daru said he did not order anyone to attack the deceased, adding, “rather, the deceased and two other people came to attack me on the order of their boss and as a result, my neighbors came to my aid.”
Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Aminu Lawal, said the police are investigating the case to ascertain what actually happened.
