Ibaji Council Still Under Water, Kogi First Lady Cries Out

Wife of Governor of Kogi State, Hajiya Halima Wada, said, yesterday, Ibaji Local Government Area was still submerged in flood, resulting in the loss of farmland and property running into several millions of naira.

She disclosed this in Lokoja when a delegation from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, led by Director in Charge of Marine Environment Management Department, Mrs. Juliana Guwen, paid her a courtesy call as part of effort by NIMASA to provide relief materials to affected communities.

The First Lady told her visitors that apart from the Ibaji council, some parts of other local government councils, including Idah, were still submerged.

Hajiya Wada said that women and children in the affected communities were passing through a lot of difficulties and commended NIMASA’s management for the decision to come to the aid of the affected communities.

She said the relief materials, which include food stuff, clothes, toiletries, blankets, drugs, among others, came at a time they were needed most.

Speaking earlier, Guwen explained that the agency’s gesture was part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, and that it was not limited to Kogi State. The NIMASA Director said top officials of the agency were leading different delegations to the affected states.

She said she and her team had gone round parts of the state and had seen first-hand the level of the “devastation” of the flood, noting that even the agency’s office in Lokoja was not spared by the flood.

She noted that NIMASA staff in the state were sacked from their offices and houses. Guwen said their decision to visit the state’s First Lady was because she was the mother of the state.
