There’s No Impeachment Threat Against Jonathan– PDP 4 years ago 0

The Peoples Democratic Party, on Sunday, asked its supporters not to panic over the move by the House of Representatives to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.

The party said such a plan would not succeed.

Reacting to the ruling of a Federal High Court on Friday, which refused to stop the House of Representatives from going ahead with its plan to impeach the President, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said it would not see the light of the day.

The House, which resumes on Tuesday, has threatened to impeach the President on alleged poor implementation of the 2012 budget.

But the National Chairman of the African Liberation Party, Dr. Emmanuel Okereke, had in an ex-parte application asked the court to restrain the lawmakers from going ahead with their threat.

However, the court, presided over by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, refused to grant the application for two reasons: the non-inclusion of the Senate as a party, and lack of clear evidence that the Reps had already commenced an impeachment process against Jonathan.

Metuh, however, told our correspondent on the telephone that there was nothing on the ground to suggest that the plan would manifest.

He said, “We have nothing to fear because there is nothing concrete on the ground to suggest that there is an impeachment threat anywhere.

“There is no way the President can be impeached. Whatever you are hearing is a mere rumour that cannot be substantiated.

“The President has not done anything to warrant his being removed from office. We have nothing to fear concerning that.

“If you are talking about the court’s ruling, does it say the President should be sacked or that the House or the National Assembly should go and remove the President?
