Oyerinde: Police To Pay Activist N5m

A High Court sitting in Benin, Edo State, on Friday, awarded N5m as damages against the Nigeria Police Force, for unlawful detention of Benin-based human rights activist, Rev. David Ugolor.

Justice Esther Edigin, in a judgement she delivered, restrained the police from further arresting the applicant.

The judgement followed an earlier ruling by the court on Aug. 16, wherein it ordered Ugolor’s release.

Ugolor was arrested on July 27, over complicity in the murder of the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Olaitan Oyerinde.
