Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said that henceforth only students from poor families would enjoy scholarship awards in the state.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press to the Governor, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, the governor made the statement during the flag off of scholarship awards to about 24,000 students of Kano origin, studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.
“The administration is thinking of screening its students. Those whose parents are discovered to be affluent may cease to enjoy government scholarship, and the amount saved from sponsoring them will be used to serve indigent students. For those children who attend private primary and secondary schools, it shows evidence of parental capacity to pay for their education. Those who can sponsor the education of their wards ought do so and allow the government to pay for the less privileged,” he said.
