Two people said to be members of a vigilance group were reportedly killed and many injured on Wednesday when suspected armed robbers stormed a branch of a first generation bank in Share, Ifelodun Local Government, Kwara State.
The incident came after the Emir of Zazzau in Kaduna State, expressed concern over the spate of armed robbery in Zaria city, especially in the last 10 days, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The Divisional Police Officers of Oke Oyi Police Station was also said to have been shot on the left arm when he led his men to confront the robbers in Share.
Our correspondent learnt that the robbers, said to be numbering over 10, stormed the bank in three vehicles with sophisticated weapons between 11am and 12 noon.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Olufemi Fabode confirmed the attack and the arrest of the two suspects.
Meanwhile, the Emir said, “I am worried about this ugly development, these armed-bandits have been terrorising Zaria city in the last 10 days. They used to come in a group of 30 people or more.”
