A Katsina State based philanthropist, Alhaji Umaru Abdullahi Tsauri, popularly known as Tata, has alleged death threat on him by some politicians in the state.
He alleged that the said politicians masterminded series of attacks and intimidation against his person with intent to disrupt his activities in the state. Counsel to Tsauri, Barrister Abbas Ibrahim Jafar, who spoke with journalists in Kaduna recalled that “recently, an event was organized in honour of Tata at the Katsina State University, but was violently disrupted by hooligans who destroyed cars at the venue and inflicted injuries on many people.
Sometimes in June, a complaint was made by the chairman of PDP in Danja Local Government Area of Katsina before the Danja Divisional Police Officer, that some people waylaid him.
Consequent upon the complaint, the DPO went to a nearby village called Yarkasuwa and made some arrests. In fact, he arrested 21 people, and took them to the Funtua Area Command where some of them were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court and the others were transferred to the Katsina Central Criminal Division.”
He said the accused persons as contained in the First Information Report ( FIR) clearly indicated that there were 21 people, but that “the name of the Tata was inserted for no just reason in the FIR while nothing was said about him.
Subsequently, the matter was transferred to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice, and the ministry gave advice on the basis of the names contained in the FIR.
They advised that nine of them should be discharged and acquitted because there was no case against them, and the rest should be charged to court. Among the names submitted by the Attorney General, Umaru Abdullahi Tsauri was not there. So, you can see that some people are working against him.”
