The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has asked security agencies to immediately arrest killers of its members at Arepo, in Ogun states last week and charge them for murder, otherwise it will order a “Stop Work for Safety” on its members.
The Union executives said if the perpetrators of the heinous crime were not apprehended within the next one month all its members at the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) will stop work.
In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Comrade Zaid Kolawole, PENGASSAN said it had directed its members not to make any further attempt to repair the pipelines until government could guarantee their safety and security.
The statement condemned as barbaric and unacceptable the heinous killing of three staff of the PPMC by pipeline vandals at Arepo.
The union blamed the security agencies and PPMC management for not taking enough measures to protect the workers against such attacks.
The three workers were among those attacked by vandals while in Arepo to repair ruptured parts of the pipelines, which was damaged by vandals in August 2012 and avert the unnecessary product scarcity that could result from the damage.
