The Police on Tuesday arraigned 25-year-old Abdulkadir Isiyaku before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to commit an offence.
Police prosecutor Mohammed Ahmed told the court that the case was reported at the Maitama Police Station by Tana Christopher of EMAB Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, on Sept. 7.
Ahmed said that on Sept. 7, while Christopher was on her way to work, Isiyaku blocked her from behind, held and dragged her to a nearby bush.
He said that Isiyaku brought out a knife and showed Christopher, with intent to extort money from her, but she raised an alarm and Isiyaku was arrested.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 95 of the Penal Code, but Isiyaku pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Senior Magistrate Tony Ubani granted the accused bail in the sum of N40,000 with a surety in like sum. Ubani said the surety must be a civil servant of any grade level and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court. He adjourned the case to Oct. 8 for hearing.
