624 students get N6.24m bursary awards

Six hundred and twenty-four students of Lagos Central Senatorial District have been given N6.24m bursary grants, amounting to N10,000 each, by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Speaking at the third edition of her senatorial town hall meeting and presentation of her first year account in Lagos, Tinubu said the bursaries were to enable the beneficiaries to purchase books.

She said she would establish a N43.2mskills acquisition centre and provide conventional lights and solar street lights estimated to cost N29.8m.

“I also intend to install a 500KVA transformer estimated at N7.5m and a drug treatment and rehabilitation centre estimated at N200m in the constituency,” she said.

The lawmaker explained that the purpose of the rehabilitation centre was to reduce the incidence and effects of drug abuse among the youth.

She said plans were in progress to start a skills acquisition/training programme to assist some of the unemployed youths.

“Our challenges are many but they are not insurmountable. With hard work, sacrifice, resilience and perseverance, they can be overcome,” the Senator said.

She assured her constituents that she would facilitate the entrenchment of true fiscal federalism in the constitution in accordance with her campaign manifesto.

Also, as part of the measures to empower the youth of the area, particularly the ladies, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Lady Mechanic Initiative, Mrs. Sandra Aguebor-Ekperuoh, said LMI would take on 10 ladies interested in becoming mechanics.

She said the ladies who would be trained at the centre, would be paid stipends every month.

However, those interested in the initiative are expected to express their interest through the Lagos Central Senatorial Constituency in Yaba.
