The police have recovered 19 exotic cars from a three-man robbery syndicate based in Kaduna. The Force spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, made this disclosure yesterday in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP.
Mba said that the recovery, which he termed, “major breakthrough in the fight against crime”, was recorded by the newly formed IGP’s Special Taskforce on Heinous Crimes.
According to the spokesman, the taskforce, between 22 and 28 August, working on a tip-off from members of the public, successfully raided some notorious and dangerous criminal hide-outs in Kaduna, where the car theft syndicate was smashed.
“The Special Taskforce, working on a tip-off, in reaction to the upsurge in incidents of car theft in some parts of the country, proceeded to Kaduna State on 22nd August, 2012, where it smashed and arrested a three-man syndicate that specialises in car theft.
"The syndicate made disclosures that led to the recovery of Nineteen (19) stolen vehicles of various makes and brands,” Mba said.
The spokesman who disclosed that information had been sent to all the 37 State Police Command for circulation to the public to enable victims of car theft to come forward with proof of ownership, said the Taskforce was created in the wake of the emergence of heinous crimes in some parts of the country.
