Nasarawa to Step Up Rural Electrification Projects

Nasarawa State Government is to connect all rural communities with electricity so as to boost socio-economic activities in the areas. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, lliyasu Ali, in a statement said Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura disclosed this while commissioning a 2.3-kilometer electrification project in Bukan Kwatto near Lafia, the state capital.

Under the rural electrification project, the government will identify communities and ensure wiring of the community as well as transformers will be supplied to them.

Almakura also said the government is committed to rural development in the state to boost small and medium enterprises in the areas. Managing Director of the state energy company, Prof. Sani Suleiman Ugya, explained that the company will work towards ensuring that all communities have power supply. He urged residents of the area to guard the facilities against vandals. The community, Bukan Kwatto, has been without electricity since the creation of the state.

Already the government has distributed over 30 transformers across the state to boost the low power voltage being experienced in some parts of the state.
