Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, has, weekend, raised alarm over fraudulent facebook page account created in his name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
Orhii told newsmen that he has no facebook page account, hence members of the public should disregard any body asking them to pay any amount of money to secure contract in the agency.
Represented by the agency’s Deputy Director in charge of Public Relations and Protocol, Abubakar Jimoh, Orhii said, that fradusters have already posted a message on his supposedly facebook page account, asking people to pay N250,000 to get contracts from the agency.
Jimoh said: “We wish to state that the NAFDAC DG, Dr.Orhii does not have any facebook page account and as such, he is not the one asking people to pay money. This is purely the work of Internet fraudsters and we hereby urge the public to disregard same.”
He spoke when he hosted judicial reporters in Lagos, noting that the agency had made tremendous progress under the current DG, especially in prosecuting drug counterfeiters.
He commended Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Lagos who sentenced a fake drug dealer to three years imprisonment, enjoining other judges to use the campaign to rid the country of fake and counterfeit drugs as a collective one. He urged other judges handling NAFDAC cases to take a cue from Justice Abang.
