Twenty-eight year old motorcyclist, Suleman Kehinde, has been accused of killing a pedestrian, who attempted to cross a Lagos express road.
Kehinde is standing trial on two counts bordering on reckless and dangerous driving.
The deceased, who sustained severe head and leg injuries, was allegedly hit by Kehinde, owner of a motorcycle with registration number EKY 237QA.
Kehinde, it was gathered, sustained neck and chest injuries.
Both were initially taken to the Road Accident Emergency Management Agency at Ojota, by policemen, where the pedestrian was confirmed dead. His corpse was later taken to the Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Kehinde, who pleaded not guilty before an Oshodi magistrate’s court, said the deceased suddenly crossed the road.
He said, “Immediately the incident happened, I was unconscious and I learnt people carried us from the scene to the hospital.”
Part of the charge sheet reads, “You Kehinde caused the death of a yet-to-be- identified male pedestrian and thereby committed an offence punishable under sections 27 and 28, CAP 548 of the Road Traffic Act.’
The case has been adjourned till Sept. 27, 2012.
