No fewer than 22 persons were killed in 24 road accidents in September in Oyo State, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said in Ibadan yesterday.

Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, the state FRSC Sector Commander, said in a statement that 202 persons were involved in the accidents out of which 101 were injured. Ogagaoghene said most of the accidents were caused by violation of traffic rules, including the non use of seatbelts.

He said of the 316 traffic law offenders arrested in September, 143 were issued seatbelt violation tickets while the commission issued 40 motorcyclists tickets for riding without crash helmets.
