Jonathan In Closed Door Meeting With New Ghanaian President 4 years ago 1

President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghanaian president, John Dramani Mahama yesterday engaged themselves in a closed door meeting over what may have appeared to be a meeting bordering on security and the Nigeria’s economy.

Jonathan received the Ghanaian new president about some minutes past 5pm and after about 30minutes they moved to the residence where they also had dinner together.

Speaking to State House correspondents immediately after  the meeting, Mahama said he came to Nigeria to express his country’s appreciation to President Jonathan and Nigeria for the solidarity during the death of former President John Attah Mills.

He said, “This is just a friendly visit. Firstly to thank President Jonathan for taken time out to join us in Ghana for the funeral of late President John Attah Mills. We want to express our sincere appreciation for the solidarity he and the people of Nigeria showed us.

“Secondly to discuss bilateral issues. As you know Nigeria and Ghana, we are very close, we are bond together by historical links, we are two people, one and the same. We experience the same colonialism, we have the same culture, we have the same food, and we have to continue to discuss how we can strengthen our bilateral cooperation.

“And since I succeeded late president Attah Mills, even though myself and President Jonathan know ourselves very well, it was also important that I come to pay my respect and pay my respect to him.

“We have discussed on the issue of security, to make sure that the West African sub-region is save and secured so that we can continue to pursue our integration and our economic cooperation.” Home Page
