Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Ben Alaiya, says injured Gabriel Reuben may not be dropped from the team to face the Lone Stars of Liberia on Saturday.
Nigeria and Liberia are scheduled to meet in the first leg of the final round of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Monrovia.
Reuben sustained the injury in the build-up to the Federation Cup semi-final clash against Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on August 22.
Alaiya told the News Agency of Nigeria on telephone on Thursday that midfielder Reuben failed to train with the team as he struggled to recover from his groin injury.
He said the player was excused from training, to enable him to get a speedy recovery.
“Reuben did not train with other players and this is to increase his chances of recovery from the injury.
“The team had its last training on Thursday and this is to enable it to prepare for the journey to Monrovia on Friday morning.
“For now, we don’t know the time of our departure; the NFA has the final say, but I know it must be in the morning,” he said.
According to him, there is the possibility of going to Monrovia with all the 25 players in camp, except the Nigeria Football Association says otherwise.
