Sokoto Spends N1 Billion On 2012 Hajj

Sokoto State Government has spent N1billion on the subsidy of this year’s hajj exercise for all the intending pilgrims in the state.

The Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wammkko, made the disclosure while inaugurating this year’s Hajj Committee led by the deputy Governor, Barrister Muktari Shagari, as the new Amuirul Hajj. The event took place at Government House, Sokoto, yesterday.

He said that the essence of the subsidy was to enable intending pilgrims in the state to have a sense of belonging as if they were at home while they are in the holy land.

The governor, said over 500 million Naira was spent on the rehabilitation of hajj camp for the intending pilgrims in the state, and charged the committee to live up to expectations while discharging their duties in the country and in the holy land.

He also urged the intending pilgrims to conduct themselves in accordance with the tenets of Islam and not jeopardise the country’s integrity.

Other members of the state delegation are: Husaini Umar, who is Adviser to the Governor, and secretary of the committee, Tukur Alkali, former loyalist to governor Bafarawa as member, to mention few.
