Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, said on Wednesday that no political party was conducting any form of voter registration ahead of the October 20 governorship election in the state.
Orebiyi made the clarification during a voter education sensitization forum sponsored by the International Foundation for Electoral System for all stakeholders in the forthcoming governorship election.
He said contrary to insinuations, no political party in the state had been discovered to have carried out any form of registration that could be misconstrued for the INEC voter registration exercise.
He said, “What we know is that authorities of the Federal University of Technology Akure conducted biometric registration of their students and the state government also carried out similar exercise for its workers in the civil service but INEC had no link with both exercises”
Orebiyi insisted that the register of voters in the state could not be manipulated because only the Information Technology staff of INEC at the headquarters, with the approval of the management, could have access to it.
He said some of the officials came to the state recently in order to dispel rumours that the document had been tampered with and that security chiefs and leadership of the political parties in the state were taken round the facilities to convince them that the document was intact.
