A sales representative with Macmillan Publishing Company was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over an alleged fraud of N8m.
The accused, Oladotun Akinpelu, 36, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts of stealing and fraud, preferred against him.
The prosecutor, ASP Julius Oyakhiome, told the court that the accused, who also doubled as the company’s store keeper, committed the offences on April 2 and April 17, 2010.
He said the accused allegedly sold some books in his custody as sales representative in Makurdi, Benue, and converted the proceeds to personal use.
According to Oyakhiome, the offences contravene Section 285 (9), (b) and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Counsel for the accused, Mr. Joseph Enjurube, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal conditions.
In her ruling, Magistrate F.O Botoku granted the accused bail in the sum of N 500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to September 26.
