Ogun State Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, has sanctioned policemen assigned to patrol the Siun-Owode-Abeokuta road where suspected armed robbers on Sunday attacked cow sellers, carting away unspecified amount of money from them.
Suspected armed robbers on Sunday attacked cow traders travelling along the Siun-Owode-Abeokuta way and carted away unspecified amount of cash from them.
Our correspondent learnt that the bandits capitalised on the absence of the policemen assigned to patrol the highway around Obafemi-Owode Local Government.
The traders, who were traveling from Lagos to Ayetoro, Yewa North Area of Ogun State, were said to have run into an ambush by the suspected robbers around a private school along the highway.
Policemen, who got to the scene of the robbery incident later reportedly engaged the robbers in a gunfire after which some of the hoodlums escaped with gunshot wounds.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, alleging that the suspected robbers had informants among the cow traders.
Adejobi, an assistant Superintendent of Police, however, said the policemen attached to the highway patrol team had been sanctioned by the commissioner of police for negligence.
