The senator representing Nasarawa West senatorial district of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no choice but to cede the presidential slot in 2015 general election to the North.
Addressing journalists in his farm, in Keffi, Senator Adamu said the party’s pyramid must not allow itself to be used as a willing tool but must remain strong in its decision and ensure discipline within the system.
The two-time former governor of Nasarawa State said: “PDP has no choice but to give the North the slot in 2015. The North has equal right like any other zone. We need the presidential slot just like the other zone since the country has been divided along North and South.”
Adamu, who expressed optimism in the PDP, said only death or collapse of democracy would separate him from the party. He, however, said that the party hierarchy must ensure a level playing field for him to remain within its fold.
On the controversy surrounding the creation of state police, Senator Adamu said: “I think the issue is now becoming an issue of blackmail. If you say you want state police you are on the other side. If you say you don’t want state police you are on the other side. “So I don’t want to associate myself with that kind of politics.”
