2 Cops Detained Over Oil Bunkering

Two police officers attached to the Area ‘E’ Command in Lagos State have been detained at the Zone 2 of the Nigeria Police Command over alleged oil bunkering.

P.M.NEWS gathered that acting on a tip off, policemen from Zone 2 swooped on some oil thieves but as they embarked on the operation, Area Commander of Area ‘E’, ACP Okoro Donald allegedly stormed the scene with his men and a gun duel ensued.

A resident, Alhaji Muyideen Aremudeen, whose resident was close to the scene informed the police that the oil thieves have been operating in the area for a very long time and residents have written on several occasions to the Area E Command but no action was taken hence the reason for them to take their case to the Zone 2 Command.

Aremudeen said they were sleeping peacefully in their homes when they were woken up by sporadic shooting and on getting near the scene, they discovered that policemen were involved in the gun duel.

P.M.NEWS gathered that while the gun duel lasted the ACP was asking men from Zone 2 that why did they come to his jurisdiction without informing him.

Sources at Zone 2 hinted that after the gun battle, three police officers from the Area ‘E’ Command were arrested but one was later released based on recognition, but he is still being asked to report on a daily basis until the case would be resolved.

A police source confirmed the story, adding that they are still in shock over the development, while calling on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to look into the allegation.

When P.M.NEWS contacted the Area Commander, Donald yesterday, he denied the report and added that it was part of the campaign of calumny against him.

Meanwhile, residents  are now calling for his redeployment, stating that since his arrival several nefarious activities have been taking place within his jurisdiction which he could not tackle.

Some of the residents alleged that he has not been able to curb serious crimes taking place in Festac and its environs.

FESTAC Town has come under limelight following series of violent crimes taking place in and around there.

On 22 July, 2012 , Miss Cynthia Osokogu was murdered in a hotel in Festac by two male friends she met on the internet.
