The Police in Lagos state on Thursday arraigned six security guards before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly burgling some offices and stealing N331,000 at JMG Ltd, Gbagada, Lagos. The suspects are Chibuzor Iwuala, 28; Musa Ibrahim, 28; Benjamin Markus, 31; Canice Ibe, 32; Festus Akande, 66; Conelius Onoja, 24.
They are facing a two-count charge of stealing and negligence.
The accused, some of whom reside in Oshodi, Ketu, Sogunle, Itire, and Army Cantonment, Ikeja, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police prosecutor Akinlebi Adegoke said the accused committed the offences on 5 August at the company’s premises located at Plot 13B, Redemption Crescent, Gbagada.
“Unidentified persons broke into the offices through the ceilings and stole N331,000 from the five offices that were locked, while the accused were on duty.
“The walls were drilled while the ceilings, doors and drawers were broken,” he told the court.
Akinlebi said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285 and 408 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 each and one surety each in like sum.
She adjourned the case to 26 September.
