What Seyi Shay Said About Making Music Will Interest You

Singer Seyi Shay has given hint that she has been offered movie roles in the past but hasn’t taken up any of the roles owing to time factor, among other things. She also talked about making Pop music in Nigeria and the factors that influence her decisions to make seemingly evergreen music. 

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Ng, she also disclosed plans to go on tour around Africa following the release of her album Seyi Or Shay.

The singer also explained that she doesn’t feel the pressure to make Pop music as she enjoys the genre.

She spoke further: “[But] obviously there are some Pop music that are a bit more annoying.

"And there are some Pop music that will probably have the shelve life of like three months. But for that moment, everybody is caught in the hype of it and everybody wants to be silly and enjoy this music even though it really doesn’t make sense.

“But it makes you feel good, and that’s the idea of music. So I believe that if you do Pop music really well and you can continuously, constantly make people dance, like every month releasing a new Pop song, you are a winner.

“Like, hey, I have no qualms. But I don’t really have that energy, so I like to focus on songs that tends to be seemingly evergreen because I want my music to actually say something and I actually want it to affect people’s lives specifically.

“And I believe you can only do that when music comes from your soul and that is why I kind of lean more to that co=ntemporary side rather than Pop.”

Seyi Shay is a Nigerian pop singer. She signed to Island Universal Records in June, 2015.
