Flood Washes Away 150 Houses In Bauchi 4 years ago 7

The caretaker committee chairman of Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State,Alhaji Danlami Isah Siyi, said yesterday that over 150 houses were washed away by the flood which followed a heavy rainfall which occurred in the area on Monday.

Danlami stated this when he received Governor Isa Yuguda, who visited the affected area. He said already, his council has evacuated the victims to the Kula Primary School, adding that relief materials have also been distributed to them.

The chairman added that the situation is beyond his council, and called for immediate assistance from the state government in order to alleviate the suffering of the victims. He said farm produce, houses and animals worth several millions of naira were washed away by the flood. Governor Yuguda assured all flood disaster victims in the state that government will do everything possible to assist them. He urged them to see the incident as an act of God.

Yuguda lamented that the disaster has negatively affected the living standard of the people. He added that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been directed to go round the state and take stock of places and people affected by the disaster to give government an idea of what to do.

While inspecting the collapsed Kula bridge which links Bauchi State with other states like Kano, Jigawa and other parts of the state, the governor directed the state’s Ministry of Works and that of Special Duties to take interim measures to salvage the bridge while a comprehensive report will be sent to the Federal Ministry of Works through the zonal office of FERMA. At the palace of the Madakin Bauchi, who is the District Head of Kafin Madaki,  Yuguda lamented over the damage done to one of the existing monuments in the state, the Babban Gwani, assuring that efforts will be made to repair it.
