A member of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ilori, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to check political violence in Ondo State.
In an email on Sunday, Ilori accused the Labour Party of orchestrating violence against ACN supporters in the countdown to the October 20 election in the state.
He alleged that ACN members were attacked by LP supporters in Okeluse community of Ose Local Government Area.
He added that the choice of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as the ACN’s candidate for the poll had sparked fear in the LP fold.
But Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, denied the accusation, saying ACN supporters attacked members of the LP in Okeluse.
Akinmade said, “They are the ones who attacked our members in the town. They even went to the hospital, where our people were rushed to and continue the attack on them there.
“We won’t allow Ondo State to be destabilised by the ACN. They destroyed vehicles and motorcycles. Ondo State deserves peace and progress.”
“The Olusegun Mimiko administration is focused and will not allow itself be distracted by ACN elements.”
Meanwhile, the Mimiko Support Group said in Akure on Monday the developmental strategy employed by the governor to transform the state would earn him a re-election.
The group, in a statement by its coordinator, Mr. Oluseyi Adeniyi, said it had concluded plans to host Mimiko to an evening of endorsement and support on Thursday in Akure.
