#2015InReview: Top 5 Controversial Politicians

The year 2015 is almost over and in less than 48 hours, we will be ushered into another year. It’s been an amazing year filled with lots of events and controversies.

The year also witnessed a number of controversial politicians, especially because there were a lot of political events this year, from the general elections to the appointment of new ministers.

Some politicians managed to keep Nigerians talking about them, increasing their popularity.

Apparently, 2015 would have been a bit dull without them stirring up controversies the way they did.

In no particular order, we present the top controversial politicians of 2015.

1. Governor Ayodele Fayose

Governor Fayose recently spotted at a cyber cafe.

He is one man that is not afraid of airing his mind. Fayose says whatever he wants and criticizes whoever without any apology. Despite being strongly criticized for his controversial statements and actions, the governor continues doing his thing.

Before and after the general elections, Fayose has not stopped attacking President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress. According to him, he will continue to criticize any government in Nigeria because it is a democratic country and democracy is about opposition and the government in power.

2. Rotimi Amaechi

He is one politician that cannot be easily intimidated. The former governor has been involved in a lot of controversies which has increased his popularity. He has been one of the most talked about politicians this especially due to the drama surrounding his ministerial nomination, screening and confirmation. After much drama, he was still made the minister of transport, rubbing the plots of his enemies.

3. Bukola Saraki

He attracted controversy when he was elected as the Senate president against his party’s wishes with the help of mostly senators belonging to the opposition party. Not long after he was elected Senate president, Saraki became a hot topic as he was slammed with a 13-count charge of corruption by Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau. Some described his trial as a witch-hunt by influential members of his party, All Progressives Congress, who were unhappy with him. He blamed his trial on powerful persons who are unhappy with his occupancy of the position.

4. Femi Fani-Kayode:

The former minister has been in the news a lot this year. He’s in the news like every week. Fani-Kayode does not fail to share his opinion on almost every trending national issue.He has made a number of controversial statements about the APC and its leaders and the party has even threatened to drag him to court. He has accused President Muhammadu of supporting the dreaded Boko Haram sect and being selective in his war against corruption.

He recently wrote a controversial letter to Buhari, saying the president was continuously contradicting himself. He accused the president of misinforming and misleading the people of Nigeria, saying: “You must be mindful of the fact that God hates liars and He despises those that abuse power. You must remember that the more you scorn God’s counsel and mock His admonitions, the more your errors will be made manifest and the more your people will suffer.”

5. Governor Adams Oshiomhole

The governor’s wedding to his second wife Iara in May caused quite a stir. It was one of the most talked about weddings of the year as many were of the opinion that she was marrying him for his money and not love.

He has been very outspoken this year, making allegations against some prominent people in the country. He accused Okonjo-Iweala of being involved in the arms deal scandal. He said she must be prosecuted for allowing such huge scam occur under her nose.
